The American Association for the Advancement of Science seeks a Governance Associate to help perform professional support work for the Executive Office governance activities.
The position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:
* Develop and maintain schedules for annual elections of Section Officers, AAAS Fellows, and Secretary appointments
* Prepare communications material to announce elections, provide the Electorate Nominating Committees (24) with necessary background materials and support. Prepare election brochures, write candidate biographies, prepare announcements for Science, review bluelines, and ensure the overall accuracy of the ballots
* Distribute election material and handle correspondence relating to elections and elections outcomes
* Oversee the election of fellows. Verify nominees’ eligibility, provide complete voting materials, tabulate votes, create necessary citations and elections materials, oversee fellows award process at annual meeting
* Maintain records of officers, representatives of affiliates, AAAS officers and committee members
* Assist in the production of the AAAS handbook
* Maintain records with regard to AAAS officers, provide support for activities related to the sections activities, and serve as a resource with regard to governance-related questions.
The minimum qualifications to be competitive and considered for the position are:
* Extensive university or college level training leading to a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Five to seven years experience performing professional support work including dealing with Board Members, Trustees, or other individuals important to the organization
* Previous governance experience required
* Demonstrated organizational and written communication skills are essential. Must be able to follow and maintain a strict schedule, write clearly, and proofread carefully
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
* Ability to organize time, work independently, follow directions, and complete tasks in an effective manner
* Attention to detail and ability to manage several projects at once
