American Medical Response - Richmond is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine.
What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?
The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
About the Program:
The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance at AMR-Richmond. The academy is a rigorous ten week program which qualifies the employee to take the State of Virginia psychomotor and National Registry of EMT cognitive Emergency Medical Technician exam. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by AMR Richmond. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate. The class starts late June 2024 and will last 10 weeks. It will be a full-time schedule and run Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm, this course will be taught in person.

What happens after passing the course?
After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test offered by the State of Virginia and National Registry of EMTs and will be required to work for AMR-Richmond in a full-time capacity for a period of at least one year.
