What You'll Do:

The Systems Architecture Lab is exploring technologies to address the memory and communication walls in HPC and AI systems.This internship will focus on how SAL's memory coupled compute building blocks can share disaggregated memory in a supernode.

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose headquarters 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time, or fully Remote, with the opportunity to work from home in the Chicago area
Reports to: Sr Principal Engineer, HPC System Architecture

  • Investigate methods for applications to share non-cache coherent memory among multiple memory coupled compute building blocks in a supernode
  • Design and conduct experiments to evaluate performance and jitter of sharing memory among memory coupled compute building blocks
  • Document findings in a manner suitable for a research publication
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Advanced graduate student in Computer Science
  • Deep understanding of virtual and physical memory management in an operating system kernel
  • Knowledge of runtime systems usage of memory and compiler optimization techniques to access "far" memory
  • General research skills and the ability to collect and present results, and pass on gained knowledge to peers
  • Ability to work in a remote, command line environment; e.g., ssh, bash, vi, emacs, etc.
  • Experience with disaggregated memory concepts preferred
  • Linux kernel hacking preferred
  • Understanding of how multi-kernels manage memory preferred
  • Experience running HPC and ML applications and evaluate their performance preferred
